The 1/4 oz China Panda gold coin from 1986 is made of 99.9 fine gold. The Panda was produced in several Chinese mints but they show no mintmarks. Some years show minor variations in the size of the date and style of temple which helps to identify the actual mint.
Design/Appearance:
Obverse:
The obverse shows the Abundant Harvest Hall in the Temple of Heaven with Chinese characters reading on top, meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue „1986“ is shown at the bottom.
Reverse:
The 1986 Panda motif portraits a walking panda in a bamboo grove. Under the Panda motif the value of 25 Yuan can be read. Above the motif chinese characters display size, 1/4, and metric purity „.999“ and „1/4 OZ Au.“. Below the panda motif is the nominal value of 25 and Chinese sign for Yuan.
Mintage and Measurements:
Total of 42,229 coins minted.
The ¼ oz coin has 22mm in diameter.
Thickness is 1.53mm.
