The design of the coin with the Temple of Heaven on obverse has not changed since 1982 but the panda designs change each year. Chinese mints do not use mintmarks and in some years there are minor variations in design, such as size of date, to identify the mint in China. The China Panda Gold Coin 1991 ½ oz consists of 99.9 fine gold. Coins are available to purchase tax free.
Once again the picture shows the Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest in The Temple of Heaven. The design is shown with Chinese characters reading on top meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue „1991” is engraved at the bottom.
A panda is shown with feet in the water eating bamboo. The nominal value “50” is followed by the symbol for Yuan and can be read to the left of the panda. Chinese characters running around outer rim display size, 1/2, and purity, ”.999“ and „1/2 oz Au.“.
