The Canadian Maple Leaf Gold coin was first introduced in 1979 and is one of the most popular gold bullion coins in the world. What separates the Maple Leaf from other bullion coins is the advanced security features from the Royal Canadian Mint. Since the 2013 edition, the design includes a micro-engraved maple leaf privy mark containing the last two digits of the yearly issue and is only visible by microscope. Radial lines on both sides of the coin were added in 2015. The 2019 Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold coin has a purity of .9999 gold and a face value of 50 Dollars. The 2019 edition of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf celebrates the 40th anniversary of the series. The Maple Leaf Gold coin was the second gold coin to be issued for global investors behind the Krugerrand. The motif side of the coin depicts the famous image of the Canadian Maple Leaf. The micro-engraved maple leaf can be seen just below the larger maple leaf on the right side. The engravings around the outer edge read “CANADA”, “FINE GOLD” and “1 OZ OR PUR”. On either side of the Maple Leaf, in the center, is the purity “9999”. The edge bar is reeded and slightly raised, which protects the coins surface. The reverse shows the right side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a royal necklace. The portrait of the Queen was designed by artist and engraver Susanna Blunt. The inscriptions around the outer edge are the name of the regent “ELIZABETH II”, the date of issue “2019” and the face value of “50 DOLLARS”.
