The 1 oz Growling Cougar is the second release in the “Call of the Wild” gold coin series from the Royal Canadian Mint. Call of the Wild gold coins have a remarkable  five-nine purity level (99.999%), which make them the purest gold coins available on the market today.

Introduced in 2014, the “Call of the Wild” gold coin series highlights designs from the Canadian Wilderness. All of the coins are minted by the Royal Canadian Mint and come individually packaged in an assay card.

Product Specifications

Call of the Wild gold coins all come in the traditional 1 oz size. However, some editions are also available in the 1/10 oz fractional weight.

Weight: 1 troy ounce

Diameter: 30 mm

Nominal Value: 200 Dollars

Purity: .99999

Issue Date: 2015

Design

The motif side of the coin depicts a detailed profile of the head of a growling cougar. The design was created by engraver and artist Pierre Leduc. The inscriptions that appear around the outer edge are “CANADA” and “FINE GOLD 1 OZ 99999 OR PUR”. Below the cougar is a micro-engraved maple leaf, which is a leading edge security feature that makes the coin almost impossible to counterfeit.

The value side depicts a right side profile of Queen Elizabeth II. The design of the Queen was created by artist Susanna Blunt. The engravings around the outer edge read “ELIZABETH II” “200 DOLLARS” and “2015”.

The cougar is one of Canada’s largest and fiercest wildcats. The average sprinting speed of a cougar is 56 kilometres an hour. Cougars live in the mountains and forests of Canada where they will not be seen.
