History

The Gold Maple Leaf was introduced in 1979 but it was not until 1986 that the coin was offered in the ½ oz weight. The front of the coin depicts a Maple Leaf, which celebrates one of Canada’s most popular and important national symbols. One of the more interesting aspects of the Gold Maple Leaf is that from the time the coin was introduced in 1979 until 1982 the Maple Leaf had a purity level of 999/1000. From 1982 until present, the purity has been increased to 999.9/1000, which is 24 karat gold. The Gold Maple Leaf is produced by the Royal Canadian Mint and is legal tender in Canada. The ½ oz Gold Maple Leaf has a face value of 20 Canadian Dollars. The intrinsic value of the coin is much higher than the face value due to the pure gold content of the coin.

Advantages

One of the biggest advantages of the Maple Leaf is its global brand recognition. The Maple Leaf is a top quality gold bullion coin admired for its high purity level and consistent design. The image of the iconic Maple Leaf embossed on the front of the coin is known throughout the world.
