The Lunar II gold coin series from the Perth Mint was released in 2008 and features 12 different coin designs. Each yearly design represents one of the animals from the Chinese Zodiac.
The Lunar II Ox is the second coin in the series and has a purity of 99.99% gold.
The Lunar Ox ¼ oz gold coin was released in 2009 and has a declared mintage of 7,750 coins.
The motif side of the coin depicts a Lunar Ox lying on the grass. Above the Ox are bamboo leaves. The Chinese character for Ox is engraved above the motif. On the bottom is the inscription “Year of the Ox”.
As with all the Lunar II gold coins, the value side depicts the right side portrait of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The inscriptions on the outer edge are “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA”, “25 DOLLARS”, “2009”, and “¼ oz 9999 GOLD”.
