The Lunar II gold coin series honors the 12 year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac. The series began in 2008 with the “Year of the Mouse” and ends in 2019 with the Year of the Pig”.
In the Chinese Zodiac each animal is said to influence the personality of the people born under its rule. “Mouse” personalities have enterprising spirits and work hard to achieve their goals. The birth years of the Lunar Mouse are 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996 and 2008.
The Lunar II Mouse ½ oz gold coin has a fineness of .9999 gold and a declared mintage of 3,474 coins.
The Lunar II Mouse is the inaugural coin in the series from the Perth Mint.
The motif side of the coin depicts a Mouse on a stony path with chili peppers in the background. “Year of the Mouse” is inscripted on the bottom. The Chinese character for “mouse” can be seen above the motif.
The value side shows the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The engravings are the name of the regent, country of origin, face value, date of issue and fine weight.
