The Emu bullion coin was introduced in 2018 by the Perth Mint in Australia. This coin features the iconic Australian bird which is known for its long legs and ability to run up to 50 kilometres an hour.
The reverse of the coin displays an adult emu with three tiny chicks in the sparse terrain of the outback. The depiction, by Sean Rogers, beautifully captures the lush plumage of the bird and its endearing expression as it looks towards the observer. The image extends to the rim on the bottom half of the coin giving the scene more of a lifelike quality. The legend at the top of the coin is visible and bordered by fine lines, it includes the inscription “AUSTRALIAN EMU” and the Perth Mint’s mintmark “P” on the left. The inscription at the bottom is within the image and reads “2023 1 OZ 9999 GOLD”.
For additional security, a micro laser-engraved authentication feature is included that is only visible under magnification.
The obverse of the Australian Emu 1 oz Gold Coin 2023 features the official Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse, incorporating the Jody Clark effigy alongside the years of Her Majesty’s reign, displayed as ‘1952 – 2022’. The coin's face value is also shown as “100 DOLLARS”.
