The Perth Mint is one of the world’s most prestigious mints with a reputation for producing high quality bullion with beautiful and captivating designs. The Lunar III Rabbit is no exception to this. The Lunar series began in 1996 with Lunar I and Lunar III was introduced in 2020 with the Year of the Rat. 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac and the rabbit is the fourth animal in this fascinating twelve animal system.
The obverse of the coin displays a wonderful image of a rabbit suspended in the air amongst long grass. The remarkable detailed relief sculpture ensures that you imagine the rabbit leaping out from the coin. Relief sculpture is a particularly skilful art as it involves condensing a three-dimensional form into an area of limited depth.
The obverse depicts a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark and also includes the weight, purity and monetary value of the coin in Australia inscribed around the image.
The coin has a purity of 999.9/1000 and a gross metric weight of 62.206 grams. The face value is 200 AUD. The Lunar III Rabbit is also available in weights of 1oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz in gold and 5oz, 1oz and ½ oz in silver.
The Lunar III Rabbit 2oz Gold Coin 2023 is a very attractive piece for collectors. It is also an enticing investment opportunity with its stunning artistry, intriguing origin and high quality minting.
