The Perth Mint was established in 1899 and has a world-wide reputation for its high standard of minting and innovative designs. Located in Western Australia, this historic mint has played a pivotal role in shaping the global bullion market. The Perth Mint is recognised not only for its role in supplying precious metals for collectors and investors worldwide but also for commemorating cultural events and themes through its diverse and visually striking coin series. It produced the Lunar III Ox 2oz Gold Coin 2021, as part of the Lunar III series, which commenced in 2020 with the Year of the Mouse.
On the reverse of the coin, the Ox is displayed in a beautiful relief sculpture. Its movement has been skilfully captured, its head turned and its muscles highly defined to show its impressive strength. Either side of the ox are bamboo plants and to the right at the top is the Chinese character for ox and beneath that is the name in English with the year of issue underneath.
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The legend on this side shows the coin's weight, purity, and a face value of 200 AUD as legal tender in Australia.
The coin has a purity of 999.9/1000 and a gross metric weight of 62.206 grams. The diameter is 41.10 mm and the thickness 3.40 mm. The Lunar III Ox 2021 is also available in weights of 1oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz, 1/20 oz in gold and 1 kilo, 5oz, 2oz, 1oz and ½ oz in fine silver.
The Lunar III Ox 2oz Gold Coin 2021 not only enhances collections with its superb portrayal of this magnificent creature but also presents an investment opportunity well worth consideration.
