The Gold Kangaroo was originally known as the “Gold Nugget”. The first design of the coin featured images of gold nuggets from 1986-1989. Design/Appearance
This 2009 coin features the a left facing sitting Kangaroo, with a joey in her pouch. In the background is a depiction of the Southern Cross Constellation, and in front of the Kangaroo, is a seven-pointed Commonwealth Star.
Inscribed around the edge of the coin is ‘The Australian Kangaroo’. Along with the year, denomination, and purity.
