The 1998 1 oz Gold Kangaroo, produced by the highly regarded, and Australia's oldest Mint - Perth Mint. Created in 1986 due to the import ban of the South African Krugerrand.
Coins published up until 1989, featured images of the famous gold nuggets found on the continent during the 1800’s till 1980. However in 1989, the image was changed to that of the recognisable Kangaroo, an animal native to Australia. They are one of the few legal tender coins which change their designs each year.
This 24 carat gold coin has a purity of 999.9/1000. The gold coin is corrosion-resistant due to its high degree of purity and retains its golden colour over time.
Design/Appearance
This 1 oz coin features a two Kangaroos. One sitting looking to the right, another to the right looking forward.
Inscribed around the edge of the coin is ‘The Australian Nugget’ Along with the year, and denomination, and purity.
The obverse features a right facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Raphael Maklouf.
