Perth Mint
The Perth Mint is one of the world’s most renowned precious metal mints. Founded in 1899 in Perth, Australia, as a branch of the British Royal Mint, it is now owned by the Government of Western Australia. The 1988 Gold Nugget produced by the distinguished Perth Mint, in Australia.
Also referred to as ‘Gold Kangaroos’ due to the image changing in 1990. Coins published from that date on, have been struck with the iconic Australian animal. It’s one of the few legal tender coins that change their image annually.
Design/Appearance
Coins made in 1988, depending on the denomination, feature a different famous nugget. The name of the nugget is inscribed under the image, along with the date found, on the reverse of the coin.
This 1/2oz coin features the nugget ‘Hand of Faith’ which was found by a metal detector in 1980 in Kingower, Victoria.
The obverse features a right facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
