  • The Gold Lunar Monkey is the 9th release in the series and is available in 1 kilo, 10 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz sizes.

  • In Chinese culture people born in the “Year of the Monkey” have magnetic personalities, and are intelligent, witty, curious and clever.

  • The birth years of the Lunar Monkey are 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016 and 2028.

Design

The front side of the coin depicts a Lunar Monkey climbing across a tree branch. The Chinese character for Monkey is shown above the motif. The year of issue “2004” is engraved vertically on the right side near the edge. The fine weight and purity of “1 OZ 9999 GOLD” is inscripted below the Monkey. There is also a circle of dots that decorates the outer edge on both sides of the coin.

The reverse side shows the right side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with crown. The portrait of the Queen was designed by artist and engraver Ian Rank-Broadley. This is the third official image of the Queen, which first appeared on Australian coins in 1999. The inscriptions are “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA” and “100 DOLLARS”.
