The 2003 Lunar Goat 1/10 oz Gold coin is 24 karat gold (.9999) and has a limited mintage of 14,966 coins. The Goat is the 8th release in the Lunar Gold coin series and is produced by the world renowned Perth Mint.
Year of the Goat
According to the Chinese Lunar Calendar, those born under the influence of the Lunar Goat are believed to be shy, gentle, amicable and have a strong sense of kindheartedness. The birth years of the Lunar Goat are 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003 and 2015.
Design
To celebrate the “Year of the Goat” the front side of the coin depicts a Lunar Goat gazing to the left. The engravings are the fine weight, purity, year of issue and the Chinese character for “Goat”.
The reverse shows a right side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The inscriptions read “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA” and “15 DOLLARS”.
