The Lunar Gold coin series from the Perth Mint consists of 12 yearly editions with designs from the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The series began with the “Year of the Mouse” (1996) and ended with the “Year of the Pig” (2007).

The 2003 Lunar Goat 1 oz gold coin is 24 karat gold (.9999) and has a mintage of only 30,000 coins.

Year of the Goat

  • The “Year of the Goat” is the 8th animal in the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

  • People born in a year of the Goat are said to be mild mannered, sympathetic, and kind-hearted. Those with Goat personalities like to be in groups, but do not want to be the center of attention.

  • The birth years of the Lunar Goat are 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015 and 2027.

Design

The fronts side of the coin depicts a Lunar Goat looking intently to the left. The design details the fine long hairs of the goat. The year of issue “2003” is engraved vertically on the left side. The Chinese character for Goat can be seen on the right center, near the edge. The fine weight and purity of “1 OZ 9999 GOLD” is inscripted on the bottom. There is also a beaded circle that surrounds the outer edge on both sides of the coin.

The reverse side shows the right side profile of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II with crown. The image of the Queen was created by artist and coin engraver Ian Rank-Broadley, who’s initials appear below the motif. The inscriptions around the outer edge are the name of the regent “ELIZABETH II”, the country of origin “AUSTRALIA”, and the nominal value of “100 DOLLARS”.
