The Lunar I Gold coin series is one of the most successful bullion coin programs from the Perth Mint. The series began in 1996 with the “Year of the Mouse” and ended in 2007 with the “Year of the Pig”.
The 1999 ¼ oz Lunar Rabbit gold coin is the fourth release in the series and has a limited mintage of 5,893 coins.
All of the Lunar Gold coins have a fineness of .9999 gold and are backed by the Australian Government.
The Lunar Rabbit is depicted on the front side of the coin sitting in a grass field. The engravings include the year of issue, fine weight, purity and the Chinese character for Rabbit.
The reverse side shows the Ian Rank-Broadley design of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The inscriptions are “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA” and “25 DOLLARS”.
