Krugerrand 1/2oz Gold Coin 2021
Rand Refinery
The Rand Refinery was the inventor of the standard 1oz investment gold coin. With the launch of the Krugerrand in 1967 it still produces the most well-known gold coin in the world today.
The obverse of the Krugerrand ½ oz Gold Coin 2021 features the famous profile of Paul Kruger by Otto Shultz’s in 1892. It is encircled by the words “SOUTH AFRICA” and “SUID-AFRIKA”, the latter being the Afrikaans name for the country. The Krugerrand is recognised as legal tender in South Africa although a face value is not shown.
The reverse of the coin displays a pronking springbok, the animal is native to South Africa and is a type of antelope. The design was first created by Coert Steynberg in 1947 and has only undergone a few small changes over the years. The word "KRUGERRAND" is shown above the image and the year is displayed with “20” to the left and “21” to the right. “FYN GOUD ½ OZ FINE GOLD” is written at the bottom.
