Design
The motif side of the coin depicts the portrait of Paul Kruger, the former president of the South African Republic. The engravings on the top outer edge are “SUID-AFRIKA” and “SOUTH AFRICA”.
The reverse side shows the South African Springbok Antelope. Below the motif on the right side are the initials “CLS”, which represent artist and engraver Coert Steynberg. The inscription on the top margin reads “KRUGERRAND”. The date of issue is on either side of the antelope as “20” and “19”. The fine weight “FYNGOUD ½ OZ FINE GOLD” is embossed on the bottom.
