Chinese Panda Gold Coins was first issued in 1982. The ½ oz China Panda 1986 is the fourth edition and contains 99.9% fine gold. All Panda gold coins include the Temple of Heaven on obverse and different Panda designs on reverse. Chinese mints do not show mintmarks. Some years have minor variations in design, such as the size of date, to identify the mint in China.
Design/Appearance
Obverse:
In the Temple of Heaven is a Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest which is shown with Chinese characters reading on top meaning “People's Republic of China”. The year of issue „1986“ is shown at the bottom.
Reverse:
The 1986 edition displays a bamboo grove with one Panda walking through it. The value of 50 Yuan can be read below. Chinese characters display size, 1/2, and purity „.999“ and „1/2 oz Au.“ Below the panda motif is the nominal value “50” and Chinese for Yuan.

The 1986 ½ oz coin has 27mm diameter.
