After 3 years where the reverse design covered the whole of the back of the coin this year the coin design has reverted to the traditional design with a slightly raised edge bar. This year a new panda design is shown after the two similar panda designs of 2001 and 2002. The 999 fine 2003 Panda Gold Coin here is in brilliant uncirculated quality and sold in the original sealed packing.
Panda gold coins are not sold domestically within China and they are only for foreign sale. They are most popular to worldwide collectors and investors for the very attractive panda designs.
Design/Appearance
The Obverse:
The widened edge bar design continues with a darkened background behind the picture of the Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest in the Temple of Heaven. Chinese characters are shown at the top reading "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue “2003“ is shown at the base under the Temple design in large numerals.
Reverse:
One adult Panda munching on a bamboo twig with a bamboo forest in the background. Showing below the panda motif are the figures 500 and sign for Yuan. Above the panda head are shown characters incorporating size, metal and purity “1oz, Au” and “.999”. The coin has a raised defined edge.
