The design of the reverse showing the panda is the same design as in 2001. This is the only time two years have had the same design. After considerable representations by collectors and investors future coin designs will change annually as before. The Panda gold coins are not sold domestically within China and are only for foreign sale.
They are most popular to worldwide collectors and investors for the very attractive panda designs. The 2002 Panda Gold Coin here is 99.9 troy oz fine and in brilliant uncirculated state. And sold in the original sealed packing.
Design/Appearance
The Obverse:
Within a widened edge bar and darkened background is shown the picture of the Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest in the Temple of Heaven. Chinese characters are shown at the top reading "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue “2002“ is shown at the base under the Temple design.
Reverse:
As for 2001 one adult Panda walking through a bamboo grove on all four paws. Showing below the panda motif are shown the nominal value of “500” and the sign for Yuan. Above the panda head are shown characters incorporating size “1oz, Au” and purity “.999”. The coin does not have a raised defined edge as before.
