The 1oz China Panda Gold Coin was minted by several Chinese mints. This issue has large and small sized dates on the obverse, which identifies the mint as chinese mints usually do not employ mintmarks. The 1999 Panda Gold Coin here is minted in uncirculated quality and sold in the original sealed packing.
The Panda gold coins are not sold domestically within China. They are only for foreign sale. They are most popular to worldwide collectors and investors for the very attractive panda designs. The design of the panda changes every year. Panda gold coins are tax free.
Design/Appearance
The Obverse:
The obverse pictures the Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest in the Temple of Heaven within an inner set of rings. Chinese characters are shown on the top reading "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue “1999“ is shown at the base under the Temple design in three different designs of lettering, two large, with and without serif, and one small. This is because more than one mint was used to manufacture these coins,
Reverse:
One adult Panda sitting on a large boulder on all four paws. Bamboo shoots are growing below the rock and behind the panda. To the front of the panda’s head the nominal value of “100” and the symbol for Yuan can be seen. Showing above the panda head motif are characters showing purity “.999“and metal and weight “Au 1 oz”.
