This year had a very small run of coins making them a very attractive and rare purchase for collectors. The mint-state Chinese Panda 1/2oz Gold Coin 1998 consists of 99.9 fine gold. The design of the Temple of Heaven on obverse has not changed since 1982.
Design/Appearance
Obverse:
The Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest in The Temple of Heaven is shown. The temple is shown with Chinese characters at top meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue „1998” is shown at the bottom. The background is black.
Reverse:
On a large rock a single panda is sitting and resting on his right paw holding a bamboo branch in his left paw and two bamboo branches behind. The background is black. The value of 50 Yuan can be read next to the right paw. Above the panda head is shown purity “.999” and size “Au ½ oz”.
Mintage and Measurements
Very limited total of 4,168 coins were minted with small date of manufacture.
½ oz coin has 27mm diameter.
