The 1997 Panda 1oz Gold Coin here is in brilliant uncirculated quality and sold in the original sealed packing. Several Chinese mints can produce the Panda gold coins. Chinese mints usually do not employ mintmarks. Minor changes in size of writing occur when more than one mint is used which is the case in the 1997 edition. This year has large and small sized dates on the obverse.

Within the inner ring is a picture of the Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest in the Temple of Heaven, Chinese characters are shown inside the outer ring on the top reading "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue “1997“ is shown at the bottom under the Temple design.
Reverse:
One adult Panda exploring his environment is shown standing on a log with fan shaped leaves on the branches either side of him and one single branch above him. Above the panda’s head are shown characters displaying size,1 OZ Au, then metric purity “999“. Below the panda under the log are the numbers 100 and symbol for Yuan.

A total of 30,457 coins were minted with large and small dates on the obverse.
The 1997 1 oz coin has 32mm diameter with a thickness of 2.70mm.
