The China Panda Gold Coin of ½ troy consists of 99.9 fine gold. The design of the Temple of Heaven on obverse has not changed since 1982.
Design/Appearance
Obverse:
The obverse shows the Temple of Heaven with Chinese characters reading on top meaning “People's Republic of China”. The year of issue „1989” is shown at the bottom. This year there are two sizes of the year, showing that two mints were involved.
Reverse:
The 1989 Panda motiv shows one Panda resting on its left paw eating a bamboo branch. All minting details are shown below the panda. Chinese characters display size, 1/2, and purity ,.999“. To the right in large numbers is 50 and the sign for Yuan. Below this is shown: „1/2 OZ Au”.

A total of 120,588 coins were minted.
½ oz coin has 27mm diameter.
