Chinese Panda Gold Coins were first issued in 1982. The 1984 ½ troy oz Panda gold coin has a fineness of 999/1000. There are different panda designs each year but the Temple of Heaven design on the obverse has remained the same since 1982. Chinese mints do not mintmark coins.
Design/Appearance
Obverse:
In the Temple of Heaven is a Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest which is shown with Chinese characters reading on top meaning “People's Republic of China”. The year of issue „1985“ is shown at the bottom.
Reverse:
The motif shows a hanging panda on bamboo branch looking to the left. The value of 50 Yuan can be seen to the left of the panda. Chinese characters display size ,1/2, and purity„.999“and „1/2 OZ Au.“
Mintage and Measurements:
A total of 62,676 coins were minted.
½ oz coin has 27mm diameter.
Coin thickness is 1.85mm
