Rand Refinery
The Rand Refinery was the inventor of the standard 1oz investment gold coin. With the launch of the Krugerrand in 1967 it still produces the most well-known gold coin in the world today.
Named after former South African President Paul Kruger and the country's currency, the rand, the Krugerrand bullion coin carries a rich historical legacy.
The obverse of the coin displays the image of Paul Kruger designed by Otto Schultz. The words "SUID-AFRIKA ᐧ SOUTH AFRICA" are displayed around the image.
The reverse features a pronking South African springbok antelope. The words "KRUGERRAND" and the mintage year are displayed on the reverse together with the weight of the coin.
The Krugerrand ¼ oz Gold Coin 2024 has a purity of 917/1000. It is minted from ¼ troy ounce of fine gold and has a fine weight of 7.78 grams. It has a diameter of 22.00 mm and a thickness of 1.89 mm. The Krugerrand is also available in weights of 1oz, ½ oz and 1/10oz in gold and 1oz in silver.
