Rand Refinery
The Rand Refinery was the inventor of the standard 1oz investment gold coin. With the launch of the Krugerrand in 1967 it still produces the most well-known gold coin in the world today.
The obverse of the Krugerrand 1/10 oz Gold Coin 2021 showcases the iconic profile of Paul Kruger, designed by Otto Shultz in 1892. This side displays the inscriptions “SOUTH AFRICA” and “SUID-AFRIKA,” which is Afrikaans for South Africa. No face value is shown but the coin is recognised as legal tender.
The reverse of the coin features a pronking springbok, a type of antelope native to South Africa. The design, originally created by Coert Steynberg in 1947, has seen only minor modifications over the years. Above the image is the word "KRUGERRAND," with the year split as “20” on the left and “21” on the right. The bottom of the coin reads “FYN GOUD 1/10 OZ FINE GOLD.”
