History
The Queen’s Beasts series is a new coin program by the Royal Mint. The series will consist of 10 coin designs that depict the Queen’s Beasts statues that were present at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in 1953.
The statues represent the Queen’s Royal ancestry. The Lion of England has long been an important symbol in England and first appeared on the coat of arms of King Richard the “LionHeart” in 1189.
