History

The oldest Chinese mints are the Shenyang Mint which opened in 1896, as well as the Shanghai Mint which opened in 1920. The other official Chinese Mints are located in Shenzhen and Beijing. Since 2006, China Panda coins have been minted and distributed by the China Gold Coin Incorporation.

In response to the high global demand for investment gold coins, the Chinese Mint introduced the China Panda gold coin to the world market in 1982. China Panda gold coins are legal tender in the People's Republic of China.

In 2016, the Chinese Government changed the weight system of the Gold Panda from ounces to grams. China Panda gold coins are the first investment gold coin to use the metric gram system.

The design of the panda coins change every year, with the exception of 2001 and 2002 when the designs was identical. The reverse side of the coin will always feature the iconic image of the Panda.

The panda bear is located in central and southwestern China. The Giant Panda is the national animal of China and represents peace and friendship.
