The 2016 1/4 oz Gold Philharmonic is an excellent choice for any investor who is in the market for fractional sized gold coins. What makes current year gold coins, like 2016 Philharmonic, attractive to consider is that they come in mint condition. Meaning that the appearance of the coin is very bright, shinny and pure because the coins are “uncirculated”. Each 2016 Gold Vienna Philharmonic is 99.99% pure gold.

These coins are also very liquid and easy to buy and sell around the world. The Vienna Philharmonic is one of the best selling bullion coins globally and is considered a very high quality gold coin. The 1 oz and 1/4 oz Gold Vienna Philharmonic were both introduced in 1989. The 1/10 oz was introduced in 1991 and the 1/2 oz was introduced in 1994. A new fractional sized Gold Vienna Philharmonic (1/25 oz) was produced in 2014 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Vienna Philharmonic gold coin series.

Appearance and Design

The Philharmonic was designed by Thomas Pesendorfer, who is the chief Engraver of the Austrian Mint. The coins are minted based upon demand, and production can vary from year to year. The design of the Gold Philharmonic is the same every year, only the year of issue changes. The obverse of the coin depicts the organ of the famous Golden Hall located in Vienna. The image is derived from the iconic Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra which was founded in 1842. The reverse shows images of all of the musical instruments that are played by the orchestra. These instruments include the cello, violin, harp, bassoon and horn. In total, eight musical instruments are displayed and the words “Wiener Philharmoniker” is engraved on the top of the coin. All of the engravings on the Philharmonic Gold coin are in German.
