Appearance
Front:
The front of the China Panda gold coin remains unchanged, showing the Temple of Heaven (Chinese Tiantán) in Beijing. Above the temple stands in half-century Chinese characters "People's Republic of China". Only the embossing year under the motif varies.
Back:
The new motif for the 2017 China Panda 2017 shows a panda sitting in the grass, holding a bamboo tube in her hands. Bamboo plants are visible in the background. The nominal value of 50 yuan is enscripted on the back, along with the weight and purity.
History
The first Gold Panda was introduced by the Chinese Mint 1982. Many countries issued investment gold coins in 1970’s and 80’s in response to the high global demand. China was third country to introduce an investment gold coin behind the Krugerrand which, came out in 1967, and the Canadian Maple Leaf which, was introduced in 1979.
