This 1oz coin contains 99.9 troy oz fine gold. Several Chinese mints can produce the Panda gold coins but show no mintmarks. Minor changes in size of writing occur when more than one mint is used. This year has two sizes of date on the obverse. Panda gold coins are tax free.
Design/Appearance
Obverse:
Once again the same design of the Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest in the Temple of Heaven. Chinese characters are shown on the top reading "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue „1990“ is shown at the bottom under the Temple design.
Reverse:
One adult Panda is shown standing on all four legs on a rock looking to the right. To the left of the panda are two bamboo trees. Above the panda on the edge bar are Chinese characters displaying size, 1, then metric purity „.999“ and „1 OZ Au.“. Below the panda on the rock are the nominal value 100 and the symbol for Yuan.

A total of 53,898 coins were minted.
The 1988 1 oz coin has 32mm diameter.
It has a thickness of 2.70mm.
