A pixiu is a mythical creature that is believed to attract wealth and good fortune. In one Chinese legend, the pixiu is believed to have defecated in Heaven so the Jade Emperor sealed its anus and it was only allowed to eat gold, silver and jewels. This surely makes it a good omen for retaining wealth!
The reverse of the coin displays the two Pixius facing each other sitting on lots of ancient Chinese coins. There is a P in between them at the top of the coin which is the mark of the Perth Mint. Pixiu translates to panther, however they are described as having the head of a dragon and body of a lion. They also have antlers, wings, hooves and sharp claws and teeth.
The obverse of the coin displays a portrait of Elizabeth II by Jody Clark together with the face value of the coin which is 100 Australian Dollars.
