Appearance
The Maple Leaf 1oz Silver Coin 2018 has special security features that enhance the appearance of the coin. The radial lines in the background of the front and back motifs give the coin a beautiful structure. Each coin is also given an individual mint mark. This mint mark is a laser engraved maple leaf that contains the year of coinage.
Engraving by laser creates a random pattern that can be read out with the help of an appropriate device and compared with the databases of the Royal Canadian Mint. This process is referred to by the Royal Canadian Mint as Bullion DNA. Furthermore, the silver Maple Leaf 2018 has a ribbed edge and an edge bar, which give the coin an additional protection against manipulation and counterfeit.
Motif
The motif on the front depicts the famous image of the Canadian Maple Leaf. The presentation is very detailed, so that the finest leaf veins can be seen. The mint mark in the form of a small maple leaf with the embossing year can be seen below the motif. Above the motif the country "CANADA" is imprinted. To the left and right of the maple leaf is the fineness "9999". The fine weight "1oz" can be seen at the bottom of the coin, framed by the words "FINE SILVER" and "ARGENT PUR".
Back
As with all commonwealth coins, the back of the Maple Leaf 2018 shows the regent of the United Kingdom. For this reason, Queen Elizabeth II has been depicted on the Silver Maple Leaf since 1988. Above the motif is the name "Elizabeth II", below is the face value and the year "5 Dollars 2018".
Manufacturer
Maple Leaf silver coins are produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. It is the official mint of Canada and reports directly to the Ministry of Finance. Founded in 1908, the mint produces all of Canada’s circulation coins and also manufactures circulation coins on behalf of other nations.
The mint also designs and produces gold, silver, platinum and palladium bullion coins and commemorative coins. The Royal Canadian Mint is based in Ottawa.
Advantages and Disadvantages
One of the key benefits of Maple Leaf 1oz silver coins is that they are recognized worldwide and can therefore be bought and sold almost anywhere. Furthermore, the coin contains .9999 of fine silver which is a high purity level for a silver coin. In addition, the Silver Maple Leaf has a relatively low premium for a 1oz silver coin.
No other investment coin on the market has the leading edge security features of Maple Leaf silver coins. Bullion products produced by the Royal Canadian Mint are world class and of the highest quality.
An advantage of silver coins over ingots (bars) is the closed surface, which minimizes the corroding of the coin. In contrast, cast ingots corrode very quickly and increasingly form the famous silver sulfide on the surface.
A Disadvantage of silver coins is the resulting VAT rate, which can be partially circumvented by the purchase of silver coins with differential taxation. Another disadvantage is that the Silver Maple Leaf is very susceptible to scratches due to the pure silver content.
