The 2018 Kookaburra coin series from the Perth Mint has arrived! Struck from .9999 fine silver, the Kookaburra is a beautifully designed coin that celebrates the unique and diverse species of Australia.

The 10oz Kookaburra is ideal for those investors or collectors who are looking for a higher weight silver product in the form of a coin. Because of the popularity of the Kookaburra, it is easy to buy and sell at most places precious metals are sold around the world.

Fine Content and Fine Weight

The 2018 Kookaburra Silver coins series is available in 1kg, 10oz and 1oz. The higher weight sizes are a nice feature that is often not available with other bullion products like the American Silver Eagle or the Silver Maple Leaf.

The key specifications of the 10oz Kookaburra are as follows:

Nominal Value

311.03 g

75.6 mm

8.7 mm

10 AUD

The Kookaburra silver coin program was introduced in 1990 by the Perth Mint. In 1991 the mint added the 2oz, 10oz and 1 kg sizes to the series. However, the 2oz Kookaburra was discontinued after 2009.

Due to the yearly design changes, the Kookaburra is also appealing to collectors who want to own each year in the series. The only years when the design did not change were in 1991 and 1992, when the the motif was the same as 1990.

Australian Kookaburras are the largest member of the kingfisher species of birds and are located in eastern Australia. The bird has a loud distinctive call that resembles human laughter. The birds are often referred to as “Laughing Kookaburras”.

The Kookaburra 10oz silver coin 2018 shows a flying "Kookaburra" with a detailed image of the moon in the background. Above the motif the name of the coin is stamped "AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA". Below the motif is the embossing year, fine weight, fine content and the precious metal specification "2018 10oz 9999 SILVER". Note the Mintmark "P" which stands for Perth Mint, on the right side of the silver coin.

The back shows "Elizabeth II" as the main motif. The inscriptions read "ELIZABETH II” “AUSTRALIA” and “10 DOLLARS".
