In 2018, the "The Birds of Paradise" series started with the motif of the Victoria’s riflebird. The 2019 issue is dedicated to the Manucodia, which is a bird of paradise that originates from New Guinea. The coin will have a limited mintage of just 50,000 pieces, making it appealing to both collectors and investors. The Manucodia is native to New Guinea and the surrounding islands. The appearance is very similar to the magpies, however, the Manucodia has a shorter tail and are completely black with a metallic iridescent sheen from blue-green to bronze. The manucodia is also called paradise crow. The "Birds of Paradise - Manucodia" 1 oz silver coin is 99.99% pure silver and has a face value of 1 Dollar. The Manucodia is also available in gold and is stamped in the traditional 1 oz size. Weight: 1 troy ounce Diameter: 40.6 mm Thickness: 3.21 mm Nominal value: 1 Dollar On the motif side of the coin the manucode is shown perched on a tree branch, as it lets out its distinctive call, which resembles a wind instrument. The right leaf and the tail protrude into the optically remote edge area. The design of the coin is very detailed and realistic. The inscription in the offset border area reads "AUSTRALIAN BIRD OF PARADISE ● 1oz 9999 SILVER". The letter "P" is engraved below the branch and stands for the Perth Mint. The value page shows the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark. The designer's initials "JC" are depicted on the shoulder of the Queen. The inscription in the margin area reads "ELIZABETH II 2019 AUSTRALIA ● 1 DOLLAR". Birds of paradise belong to the order of passerine birds. There are 43 known species of birds of paradise. They are known as some of the worlds most attractive birds because of their striking colors and bright plumage. The birds of paradise are historically linked to the island of New Guinea and the surrounding archipelagos.
