Chinese Lunar Calendar 2018: Year of the Dog

Lunar II silver coins from the Perth Mint are some of the most beautifully designed and unique bullion coins on the market. The Lunar II series began in 2008 with the “Year of the Mouse” and ends in 2019 with “Year of the Pig” The series consists of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac.

The 10 oz. Lunar II dog silver coin is equipped with a ribbed edge and a border bar. The edge bar has the task of giving the coin stability and protecting the motif. The corrugated edge adds to the aesthetic appearance of the coin.

Scene side

The motif side of the Lunar II Dog 2018 shows two dogs lying in the grass with a joyful and attentive gaze. The dogs are an adult German shepherd and puppy. To the left of the dogs Chinese peony flowers are depicted. Grass and stones are also pictured in the background.

In the right-hand part of the coin above the paw of the adult dog, a "P" is stamped, standing for the ​​Perth Mint. In the center in the upper part of the coin is the Chinese character for "dog". Under the motif the lettering "Year of the Dog" can be seen.


The value side of the gold coin shows a picture of Queen Elizabeth II in profile with diadem and earring. Stamped below are the initials of the designer Ian Rank Broadley "IRB". The portrait was designed in 1997. The inscriptions around the outer edge include: the name of the regent "ELIZABETH II", the country "AUSTRALIA", the size, purity and the metal "10oz 9999 Ag", the official vintage "2018" and the nominal value "10 Dollars".
