The Kangaroo 1oz Silver Coin 2017 has an edge bar which increases the stability of the coin and provides counterfeit protection. The rippled edge of the coin also makes it impossible to visually change the coin.

The Kangaroo 1oz Silver Coin 2017 has another security feature in the form of a laser "A", which stands for Australia, and can only be seen under a magnifying glass. The microscopic letter is engraved into the letter “A” of the "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO" inscription. The motifs of the front and back are surrounded by a wide edge bar, which is filled with wavy lines and frames the motif.

On the front you can see the motif of a giant red  kangaroo, which was also used when the first kangaroo gold coin was issued in 1990. The jumping giant kangaroo is depicted in front of a radiating ring, which extends from the center of the coin and represents the Australian sun.

The motif was designed by Australian coin designer Stuart Devlin. Around the outer edge, the name of the coin "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO", the letter "P" as the official stamp of the Perth Mint, and "2017 1 oz 9999 SILVER" are embossed.

The reverse of the coin depicts an image of Queen Elizabeth II, who is shown on all official Commonwealth coins of the member states. The portrait was designed by British artist Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998 and displays the Queen in profile with wavy hair, diadem and pearl earring.

Here again, the motif is enclosed by a frame with a wave structure in which the name of the regent "ELIZABETH II", the country "AUSTRALIA" and the nominal value "1 DOLLAR" are stamped.

In 1986 the Australian Perth Mint first issued a gold investment coin, which depicted the kangaroo, the national symbol of Australia. In a very short time this coin became one of the most successful investment coins in the world.

In September 2015, the Perth Mint introduced a silver version of the popular kangaroo coin with 9999 fine silver. The Silver Kangaroo is another beautifully designed investment coin from the Perth Mint.

The popular Kookaburra was the first silver investment coin produced by the mint and was introduced in 1990. The Koala is another top selling silver coin from the Perth Mint and was issued in 2007. Perth Mint Silver coins are some of the best selling and highest quality silver bullion products in the world.

In 1896, the Perth Mint was founded as a branch of the Royal Mint London, in the city of Perth, Australia. The Perth Mint has one of the largest range of gold, silver, and platinum investment coins. Its most famous products include:

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Kangaroo 1oz silver coins are recognized worldwide and can be bought and sold almost everywhere

  • The coin has a high fineness of 999.9/1000 with a relatively low premium.

  • Silver is both a precious metal and a industrial metal. As a result it is in great demand due to its dual purpose.

  • The high scratch-sensitivity due to the fine silver content is disadvantageous. All pure silver coins are susceptible to surface scratches. It is therefore recommended to keep the coins in their protective packaging.

  • A further disadvantage of silver coins is the value added tax, which can be partly avoided by the purchase of silver coins with differential taxation. Here at Celticgold.eu you can buy silver free of VAT from our Estonian branch. Estonia is the only European country that does not (yet) tax silver.
