The Koala 1oz silver coin 2017 is available. The Koala Silver coin was introduced by the Perth Mint in 2007 and has been a huge success. Each year features a new design of the beloved Australian Koala, which adds to the appeal of the series.
The Koala is brilliantly designed and is produced by one of the highest quality mints in the world.
Fine Weight and Fineness
The Koala 1oz silver coin is produced with a fine content of 999/1000 and has a fine weight of 31.103 g. It is also the best-selling coin of the series.
Koala silver coins have an edge bar and a rippled edge. With the edge bar the coin has improved stability and stackability. The edge bar is a little higher and thus reinforces the coin. The function of the rippled edge is to protect against manipulation.
On the motif side is an adult koala next to the trunk of an eucalyptus tree surrounded by gum nuts, gum leaves and gum blossoms. Left of the motif, is the mint mark "P", which stands for Perth Mint. Under the mintmark are the letters "TV", which stand for artist Tom Vaughan, who designed the motif.
The name of the coin series "AUSTRALIAN KOALA" is inscripted along the top outer edge of the coin. At the bottom are the year issue "2017", the weight "1oz", the fineness “999” and the precious metal "SILVER".
The back shows Queen Elizabeth II in profile view within an inner circle. Surrounding the outer edge, the name of the regent “Elizabeth II” the country of origin “Australia” and the nominal value “1 Dollar” are embossed.
The "Australian Koala" silver investment coin was introduced in 2007. In the first year of mintage, only the 1 ounce size were issued. In 2008, the 1kg, 10oz and 1/2oz sizes were added to the silver coin series.
Each coin is issued as legal tender under the the Australian Currency act of 1965.
Every year since their introduction in 2007, the Perth Mint has changed the design of Koala. However, the design will always feature a koala bear in their natural setting. The Koala is available in both silver and gold.
