The Royal Tudor Beasts Range of gold and silver bullion coins is produced by the Royal Mint in Wales. The coins feature images of the ten heraldic beasts whose stone statues guard the bridge of the moat at Hampton Court Palace. The range was first introduced in 2021 with the Seymour Panther, and the second coin to be introduced in this ten-coin series is the Yale of Beaufort, minted in 2023. Each of the beasts represents a different noble house, and the series is to include designs featuring the eight other beasts: The Lion of England, The Greyhound of Richmond, The Tudor Dragon, The Seymour Unicorn, The Royal Dragon, The Queen's Lion, The Black Bull of Clarence and The Queen's Panther.

The Yale of Beaufort is a mythical creature with the body of an animal that resembles a goat or antelope with the tusks of a boar and the tail of a lion. The beast has a crown for a collar to show that it is owned by the monarchy and is wrapped in chains to signify that it has been tamed. Historians believe that King Henry VIII selected the Yale as a tribute to the brother of his third wife, Jane Seymour.  It was used as a symbol by the Beaufort family, an English noble family, and became an emblem of their power and prestige. Today, the Yale of Beaufort is still used by the Beaufort family and can be seen on coats of arms, flags, and other emblems and is a reminder of their significant influence during the Tudor period in England.

The Yale of Beaufort was not only a symbol of power and prestige, but it also had practical applications. The Yale was said to be able to hold a victim in its tusks and drag it away, which made it a useful emblem for hunting and warfare.

This fascinating coin was designed by sculptor David Lawrence who created the mythical creature on the obverse. The security feature of a chainmail surface texture animation is shown in the background on the obverse. The reverse of the latest coin displays a portrait of Her Late Majesty The Queen by Jody Clark but The Royal Tudor Beasts will no longer be produced featuring Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Yale of Beaufort 1 oz gold coin is made of 1 troy ounce struck in 999.9 fine gold and is also available in ¼ oz, as well as a 2 oz in fine silver and a 1 oz in platinum. The 1 oz gold coin has a dimension of 32.69mm and a denomination of £100.

The appeal of this fascinating coin reaches both collectors and investors due to its unique design, historical significance and exceptional craftsmanship.
