The coins is also referred to as a “full” Sovereign with a nominal value of 1 Pound. The fine gold content is 7.322 g. The Sovereign gold coin series is one of the most minted gold coins in the world.
Size and Alloy
The Sovereign has a 22 karat alloy with 91.67% gold and 8.33% copper. This alloy has the advantage of improved scratch resistance. The copper content increases the durability of the coin and thus is less susceptible to surface scratches. Copper is often used to mint gold bullion coins because it is a hard metal. Unlike most bullion coins, the Sovereign is measured in grams not in ounces. A "full Sovereign" has the fine weight of 7.322 g and a fineness of 917/1000. The diameter is 22.05 mm and the thickness is 1.52 mm.

Due to the 22 karat gold alloy, the Sovereign 2016 has a reddish tint. Also, as with many other coins featured, it has an edge bar and rippled edge. The front shows the usual representation of Saint George slaying the dragon. He sits on a rearing horse, armed with a sword. On his head is a Corinthian helmet and he wears a mantle. Located on the inner side of the edge bar, a decorative circle consisting of notches can be seen. Below the motif the year 2016 is imprinted. The reverse depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with a crown. The label on the back reads "Elizabeth II Dei Gra Regina Fid Def". The fine weight and fineness are not specified.
