From the world known Australian Perth Mint, the 2012 1oz gold coin. The Australian Gold Kangaroo has become a sought after product due to it being a high quality coin which is beautifully finished. Known for being one of the few coins that changes its design yearly, making it popular amongst collectors and investors.
The mint was originally founded in 1896 as a branch of the British Royal Mint. They first published the Gold Nugget in 1986 due to the South African Krugerrand import ban. The coins initially depicted images of iconic gold nuggets discovered on the continent.
In 1989 the image on the coin changed to that of a Kangaroo, making it more symbolic as a product of Australia.
All coins are packaged individually in a durable acrylic case to protect it from rough handling. To underpin the supplementary collectability of Australian gold bullion coins, a maximum mintage is declared for nominated sizes at the beginning of each year. The 2012 coin has a declared mintage of 198,207 coins.
Design/Appearance
This 1 oz coin features a side profile of a standing kangaroo, facing right. In the background on the left is a windmill. Inscribed around the edge of the coin is ‘Australian Kangaroo’ along with the year, denomination, and purity.
The obverse features a right facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
