The 10th release of the Lunar Gold coin series from the Perth Mint celebrates the “Year of the Rooster”. The Lunar Rooster 1 oz gold coin was released in 2005 and has a limited mintage of 19,729 coins.
All of the Lunar Rooster gold coins have a fineness of .9999 gold and are considered legal tender in Australia.

Design
The front side of the coin depicts a rooster standing on a rock with the sun in the background. The Chinese character for Rooster is to the right of the motif. The year of issue “2005” is engraved vertically on the left side of the coin. The fine weight and purity of “1 OZ 9999 GOLD” can be seen on the bottom below the Rooster. There is also an ornamental circle of dots that surrounds the outer edge of both sides of the coin.
The reverse side depicts the right side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with crown. The initials “IRB” appear below the portrait and stand for artist and engraver Ian Rank-Broadley. The inscriptions around the outer edge are the name of the regent “ELIZABETH II”, the country of origin “AUSTRALIA” and the nominal value of “100 DOLLARS”.
