The 1999 Lunar Rabbit 1 ounce coin is 99.99% pure gold and has a mintage of only 18,261 coins. The Lunar Gold coin series was introduced in 1996 and is one of the most popular bullion coin programs of the Perth Mint.
The Lunar Gold coin series celebrates the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. According to the Chinese Zodiac, those born under the rule of the “Rabbit” are said to be compassionate, gentle and romantic. The birth years of the Rabbit are 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011 and 2023.

Design
The front side of the coin depicts a rabbit sitting on a small patch of grass. The Chinese character for rabbit is engraved above the motif. The year of issue “1999” is engraved vertically in the left quadrant of the coin. The fine weight and purity of
“1 OZ 9999 GOLD” is inscripted on the bottom. There is also an ornamental circle of dots that surrounds the outer edge.
The reverse side shows the right side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with crown. The portrait was created by artist and engraver Ian Rank-Broadley, who’s initials appear below the image of the Queen. The inscriptions around the outer edge are the name of the regent “ELIZABETH II”, the country of origin “AUSTRALIA” and the nominal value of “100 DOLLARS”.
